Farm King shooting Police on the scene at Farm King

FARM KING SHOOTING

Police say no customers, employees or officers were injured after a standoff
at Farm King on East Jackson Street in Macomb. Macomb Police Chief Curt
Barker says a 911 call came in around 12:45 yesterday afternoon from a Farm
King employee, reporting a man entered the store with a rifle. A few minutes
later, a second call came into dispatch saying that shots had been fired.
Employees and customers evacuated the building and were taken to HyVee
by authorities. Three employees, three customers and a small child barricaded
themselves in an office within Farm King and communicated with individuals
outside via text message until police were able to rescue them. Police are
reporting no injuries to customers or employees. Officers made an attempt
to enter the building with one team on the side of the building and another at
the front. The gunman fired at the team at the front of Farm King and police
called in the Illinois State Police Tactical Response Team. The Tactical
Response Team released a robot with a camera into the building to search for
any victims and to locate the gunman. At 6:30 last night, Macomb Police Chief
Curt Barker and Illinois State Police Safety Education Officer Trooper Ed
Howard confirmed that the gunman was found dead inside the store from a
self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have identified the man as 19-year-old
Jonathan Labbe of Tennessee. Authorities say they are unsure of a motive.
Farm King will remain secure as crime scene services and investigators
continue to process the crime scene.
