ERIE MAN ARRESTED ON SEVERAL CHARGES

The McDonough County Sheriff's Office responded to a call early Wednesday morning of shots fired from a vehicle.

Police received a call a little after 2 a.m., stating that the vehicle had been southeast of Blandinsville on East 350th. Police found a stop sign in the area damaged by bullets as well as 22 caliber shell casings. Shortly ther after, deputies stopped a Dodge pickup truck east of Colchester on 136 due to erratic driving. After investigating, police discovered open alcohol, a cased 22 caliber handgun, 22 caliber ammunitation and spent shell casings that led police to believe the vehicle had been in the area of the shots fired. The driver of the truck, 20-year-old John Young of Erie was arrested and charged with recklesss discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID card, unlawful possession of ammunition without a FOID, criminal damage to state supported proterty and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. Three men were also in the vehicle and were charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by minors.

About four hours later, police received a report of an unoccupied vehicle struck overnight on S. Washington St in Tennesse. Upon further investigation, police matched the damage of Young's truck with the damaged car in Tennessee. Young was additionally charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to report an accident and improper lane usage. Young was lodged in the McDonough County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.
